Final: Part 1

Final: Part 1

1. What are things you liked about the class? To be honest, there was actually quite a few things I liked about this class. The Student Success Statements, our life planning 100+ goals reading, and the most powerful quote I have ever heard and that has impacted me greatly: to always Choose the Right!

2. What are the things you did not like about the class? A few things I did not like about this class is the fact that some students (not all), kept interrupting the teacher when we needed to listen, that my computer had malfunctions at times, and well there isn't really anything else to say...

3. Recommendations for improving the class... I say that there should be more strictness involved because too many students are interrupting the class, and in promoting a Bad Environment for those who actually want to listen to fruitfulness of the lectures provided.

4. Answer:: Did you really do your best in this class? Coming from a Student who messed up along the road, Choosing to do wrong in middle school and in Freshman year in High School( not going to school and bad grades), I can say I did improve quite a bit, but not my best. I know there are ways I could've done things differently but in the end.... you learn from your mistakes.

5. Answer: Are you reading your life planning 100+ Goals Daily for at least two minutes? Explain. I will be honest to say that I don't always read my life planning goals, but I would love to get into the habit of doing so. Recently this month, however, I improved greatly, reading my goals for the entire month! I will read my life planning during the summer and for a lifetime, because I will only be doing good for myself If I do so.

6. Answer: Are you committed to be a CTR person? Why or Why not? Yes, because although I may not be perfect, I strive to do my best in school now, be as respectful as I possibly be towards others, and helping others when they need help, which in turn all pertain to CTR.

7. What will you always remember about this class? The do the right thing song, and the quote that will be my guide towards a successful life! CTR!!

Last Student Success Statement: CTR!

"A man without a goal is like a boat without a rudder." - Thomas Carlyle

What this quote by Thomas Carlyle means to me is that if we have no goals, just like boat without a rudder, we wont get anywhere or we wont go the places we'd want to go. Our goals are our rudder, they help us steer ourselves to our destinations like college, success, or the lives we would want to live. So set your goals or else you wont go far in life.

"I would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating." - Sophocles

What this quote by Sophocles means to me is that we should never cheat ourselves in life, because there is no honor in doing that. Instead we should always aim to win in a fair, competitive way, but, at the same time learn how to accept defeat in a fair way. You may hate losing as well as any other human being on the planet, but if you lose when you tried to compete in a fair manner, then people will respect you. On the other cheating towards victory in a sense is a cowards way to glory, and for the reasons mentioned above, we should aim to win/lose in a fair way with honor, than cheat and be dishonorable and disrespected.

"If I've got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing, I'm going to succeed." - Dan Dierdorf

What this quote by Dan Dierdorf means to me is that if I follow the goals I set for my life, meaning, I work hard towards trying to accomplish them, then everything else will follow. So if I pursue my goals and accomplish them, I will see that I have a life within my control, and that life itself isn't going to control me and decide my destiny. Dierdorf also mentions to do the right thing in order to succeed which is true because we can't get anywhere in life if we choose to do what's wrong.

What is gained in doing wrong?

Student Success Statement

"Nothing is ever gained in doing what's wrong." - Wilford Woodruff

What this quote by Wilford Woodruff is that we never gain anything from doing wrong, on the contrary, we get bad feelings as well as we lose dignity and respect if we choose to do the wrong things. You gain so much from doing the right things that it isn't really worth it to do anything associated as being wrong. So don't smoke, break the law, or anything that you know and feel is wrong, because remember that our actions can also bring consequences.

"The reward for doing right is mostly ____________".

Student Success Statement

"The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem." - Dr. Laura Schlessinger

What this quote by Dr. Laura Schlessinger means to me is that by choosing the do whats right, we achieve great personal traits such as self-respect, dignity, integrity, and self-esteem. This means we will not only feel good about ourselves because whe choose to do right, but it will make us better people towards ourselves and towards others. We will develop a solid foundation for success in life.

I believe the reason why I chose the resources above is because I believe they will be most helpful in helping me accomplish my educational goals.

"I Dare You to Stand Alone"

Student Success Statement

"Dare to stand alone." - Thomas S. Monson

What this quote by Thomas S. Monson means to me is that we should challenge ourselves to stand alone and avoid pressure into doing things we know that not only are wrong but that could bring some consequences. We stand alone when we reject those who offer us alcohol, marijuana, smoking, etc. Basically we should choose to do right even if everyone is against and avoid to do the wrong even if everyone is for it.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness (Short video)

What this video was about was that there was a man named Eric Smallridge who ended up being locked up in prison because he was found to be guilty of D.U.I's and the manslaughter of two innocent 20 year old girls names Megan and Lisa. This caused great pain for the families that they sent Eric to 20 years of prison. However, as time passed, Renee, Megan's mom, decided to forgive Eric for what he did and wrote him a letter saying that she have forgiven him. She also cut his prison time in half causing him to realize not only his mistake, but knowing that from there on out he must commit to make up for what he did by not doing it ever again. You may ask why Renee did such a thing, but in short, she wanted to heal, to heal from the heavy loss of her daughter and she knew that the only way to heal is to forgive. Once Eric, was released from prison he volunteered to speak in front of high schools where he explains to students the effects of drinking alcohol. Eventually Lisa's family decided to forgive and everything ended great and peaceful for everyone all due to the key concept of forgiveness demonstrated by Renee in this situation.

Forgive: to stop feeling angry or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake.

"When a deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive." - Alan Paton

What this quote by Alan Paton means to me is that when we get our feelings hurt by someone whether its through one of their mistakes, lies, or actions, we can never fully recover and live life until we are able to forgive those who caused us harm. We can never live with resentment because it isn't living at all. Instead we must live a life full of forgiveness because if we were in the same situation as those who hurt us, we would wish for forgiveness as well.

The Right Thing

Student Success Statement

"In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing." - Theodore Roosevelt

What this quote by Theodore Roosevelt means to me is that no matter what situation we find ourselves stuck in we can always choose to do what is right. For example, if somebody offers you to do drugs and alcohol, you have two options, one: accept his/her offer, or two: deny his her/offer. No matter what kind of person you may be the obvious and correct thing to do in that situation would be simply to deny it because doing drugs and alcohol isn't worth your physical well being. So always to choose what is right and good things will come to you, but on the other hand, if you choose to do whats wrong, well don't be surprised if things don't go the way you intended them to.

Life Planning Goals

"Life Planning Progress Post"

I am reading my goals occasionally, but I know I can do better. I believe the whole point of all this is so that we can have idea on what we want to achieve in our lifetimes, because life can be a bit rough at times, but if we have a plan or a blueprint we can live our lives, not let our own lives control us. It is essential towards achieving success and if it is going to help me, not only in High School, but the rest of my life, why not dedicate some time towards writing down my goals. We only live once, why waste it... so from here on out I want to make the commitment towards writing down my goals and reviewing them everyday. I can honestly say I have slacked off of a bit but I want to change for the better. But otherwise, I believe this assignment has not only helped to determine what I want to accomplish in life, but it gave me a different perspective of life, meaning we can actually have most of what we want, but we need to be willing to work hard and fair for the things we want to achieve optimum success.

An unforgettable moment; an act of good character!

Western Oregon vs Central Washington (An unforgettable act of good character!)

It all occurred one afternoon, when Western Oregon and Central Washington competed for the conference final in softball. It was unforgettable moment for Sara, a girl who had never hit a home run in her college career, or in her entire life, where out of all the games she played, she finally hit a home run and as a result was real excited as she ran to score for her team. What she soon realized that out of her excitement, she had forgotten to touch first base thus making her turn back and accidentally tear her ACL. She then crawled to first base in terrible pain while coach Pam Knox asked the official/referee if Sarah could be subbed out. Unfortunately, she could but it would not count as a home run, so then Mallory and Liz players from Central Washington decided to carry Sarah to last base, which was an incredible ting to do in a final. Nonetheless, their coach Gary Frederick and Coach Pam Knox felt touched by this great act of good character as well as the rest of the teams and the people who attended the game. I felt great witnessing this, it makes me want to be that person who steps up to show good character.

Do the right thing at the right time.

Student Success Statement

"It's a great moment when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time." - Pam Knox (Head Softball Coach Western Oregon)

What this quote by Pam Knox means to me is that it is great to witness someone with great character stepping up and choosing to do whats right, at the right time. For example, those who choose pick up any litter or decide to help an elderly person cross the street is having great character. Or in sports, choosing to play fair and to compete without cheating is choosing to step up and be a person with great character.

What are the ten Indian commandments?

The 10 Indian Commandments

1. Treat the Earth and all the dwells therein with respect.
2. Remain close to the Great Spirit.
3. Show respect to your fellow beings
4. Work together for the benefit of all mankind.
5. Give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
6. Do what you know to be right.
7. Look after the well-being of mind and body
8. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good.
9. Be truthful and honest at all times
10. Take full responsibility for your actions

What these 10 Indian commandments indicate is that they make each of their tribe members make like a promise to themselves and to the whole tribe, including the Earth. It explains how everyone must show respect and help when it is needed. It is strict on the ideal of being truthful and honest at all times, while taking responsibility for your actions. I believe these commandments are ideals we should all strive to follow because I believe that if we do, we will be wiser, happier, and kinder people. We must protect our planet and be kind to one another in order to live life the way we would want to live it.

"What must never be broken"

Student Success Statement

"A promise must never be broken". - Alexander Hamilton

What this quote by Alexander Hamilton means to me is that a promise must be kept no matter what conditions are present. I honestly believe that those who keep promises are not only trustworthy, but one of the kindest people because you know they are reliable since you know they are true to their word. A promise being kept, for example, could be when one sets out to always do the right thing... if u keep your promise you are most likely to succeed in life due to the mindset you have. Yet, on the other hand, many could choose to break this promise and eventually end up failing and complaining about their lives. So choose to keep promises, and be truthful to yourself, because in reality, it's worse to lie to yourself than it is to lie to others about your promises.

Visualization - Imagination
"What you see is what you get" - Anonymous

What this quote means to me is that you are what you believe are, meaning, if you truly see yourself as a great and successful person, most likely you will be one in the near future. However, if you are real negative about yourself, you won't go very far in life. Sometimes imagination is very important, setting goals, basically plan your life, so that you can accomplish all the things you want to do and work towards achieving your goals. Having a mindset helps you focus on what you truly want to achieve, and well always believe in yourself.

Investments

Student Success Statement

"Goodness is the only investment that never fails." - Henry David Thoreau

What this quote by Henry David Thoreau means to me is that always investing in doing what is right never fails, because if we are always choosing to do the right thing, we are sure enough to succeed in whatever we put hard work into as well as life itself. I believe investing your focus on school can really benefit you as well as investing your time to read your life planning goals, you will have a plan set out of all the different things you want to do. However, Investing your time in doing wrong or bad, you will see yourself failing time and time again and who wants that? Commit to be a better person today, a person who invests in goodness, and always does right, and you are guaranteed success.

"You make Decisions because _____ _____"

Student Success Statement

"My basic principle is that you don't make decisions because they are easy; you don't make them because they are cheap; you don't make them because they're popular; you make them... because they're right". - Theodore Hesburgh (Former president of Notre Dame)

What this quote means by Theodore Hesburgh means to me is that we shouldn't set goals that are easy to accomplish or goals that are not attainable, and especially because others have set out to do the same thing. We should always choose do make goals with a purpose in mind, that being that we are going to set out to accomplish them because they are the right thing to do. We must life with a passion an ambition in life to always want more accomplished because I think that is the golden rule of life, to live it at its fullest.
