"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to ______________________."

Student Success Statement (Be True)

"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong." - Abraham Lincoln

What this quote by Abraham Lincoln means to me is that we don't always win in life but we always have the option to be true. Being true is not lying nor cheating or doing anything you know is wrong in order to obtain success. We must work hard for the things we want and we must avoid those who have a bad influence over us.  Being true is always telling the truth and be honest about what you do, always be with those who choose to do the right, and avoid those who choose to do wrong, like people who choose to smoke weed, do drugs, be delinquents in society by breaking the law.

What is higher than Intellect?

Student Success Statement

"Character is higher than intellect." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

What this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson means to me is that good character is more valuable than intellect. You could be the intellectual person but if you have no character, your basically a stone, you won't go far in life. Sure, being intellectual is a great human trait, but don't substitute it for good character. So if your intellectual or not, great! Because what really counts to yourself and to others is your good character. Now I'm not saying don't be intellectual, I'm saying to maintain a balance of both and if you had to choose one over the other, choosing good character is the way to go.

"I trust that my hard work will pay off." - Tyler Hawes

What this quote by Tyler Hawes means to me is that, by doing hard work and by doing things with our heart, we are guaranteed to be successful. In order to succeed in life we must work hard for the things we want, and this principle can be applied to school, work, sports, etc. Always work hard for what you want, because opportunities are not just given (rare), opportunities are set for those who are willing to work hard for them. In my case, I want to be a great soccer player and I know if I really want it, I will try my best in practice, running, and in other key principles in the sport. You work for what you want, (Like I said before), and if you do, don't be surprised with everything you are going to accomplish.

Personal Interest

Taekwondo

Taekwondo or Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art with heavy emphasis on kicks. Taekwondo was first developed during the 1940's-1950's by Korean martial artists, the most-well known General Choi Hong Hi, as a combination of Okinawan karate, Chinese martial arts, and the indigenous traditions of taekkyeon and gwonbeop. Taekwondo is characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. Speed and agility is far more important than strength and power (which is important), and many should relax the body/muscles when performing kicks or jumps, instead of remaining tense. Also, the theory of power is practiced in taekwondo which is set of components which include, reaction force, concentration, equilibrium, breath control, mass, and speed. Usually taekwondo students wear white uniforms and their rank or level of experience can be indicated through their belts color which is tied around their waist. The darker the belt, the higher the rank. Taekwondo is usually practiced in gyms called dojangs, (not Dojos), which is basically a gym where martial arts is practiced. Overall, I believe this is a very interesting form of martial arts, and overall would love to practice it or join after researching it today. Don't be surprised to see me in a dojang anytime soon. :)

"True Independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right." - Brigham Young

What this quote by Mr. Brigham Young means to me is that we have freedom and independence when it comes to doing what is right, meaning, we have to right to choose from what is right and what is wrong. It is up to us if we choose to either do whats right and do whats wrong, which can determine our destiny. So in reality we all have independence and Freedom because our actions make us the humans we are in society. So do whats right, because only that way will you truly obtain tre Independence and Freedom.

El Clasico

I am anxiously awaiting the great soccer game that is coming up on March, 22, 2015, in which two of the biggest teams from Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona, will clash in a promising match! I will honestly say I support Real Madrid but at the same time I respect Barcelona because they are a great team, and can really give teams a nightmare.
Messi, Neymar, and Suarez will lead this FC Barcelona offense and can prove to be devastating to defenses. The mid-fielders consisting of Xavi, Iniesta, and Ivan Rakitic, who have great passing skills, can help carry this team by maintaining ball possession. The Defense consisting of Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano, Jordi Alba, and Dani-Alves who are all quick, smart, and strong when it comes to defending, which will certainly help break down the powerful offensive squad of Real Madrid. The Chilean Goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, has been giving excellent performances to help this FC Barcelona team receive less goals and overall, can be the difference in a close match.
On the other hand you have Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale to lead the Real Madrid Offensive, and can prove to be, “a force to be reckoned with”, as some teams describe it. The quickness, the explosiveness of this offense can certainly give any team a hard time. The mid-fielders consisting of Toni-Kroos, Isco Alcantara, Luca Modric, and James Rodriguez can be very successful in leading in starting counter attacks. The Defense consisting of Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Carvajal or Fabio Coentrao, and Marcelo can be very successful because not only are they great defenders but they can be lethal when it comes to aerial gameplay. Marcelo’s skills, speed, and great crosses can come in handy for that reason.
Overall, this is going to be a very close game in my opinion, and well I wish best of luck to both teams. These arch rivals may respect each other but will compete with all their power when it comes to games like these. So tune in to El Clasico, you won’t regret it, the fans, the atmosphere, football (Soccer) can be very interesting once you understand it and what better players to show you the sport like Leonel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Bale, Suarez, Benzema, etc.

The best touchdown in Middle School!

Olivet Eagles (Olivet, Michigan) Keith, Justice, Parker

In a play nobody would have ever expected the Olivet Eagles from Olivet, Michigan decided to do the most generous thing by allowing a young disabled kid named keith score a touchdown, probably the only and best touchdown he has ever scored in his entire life. No everyone in the team had planned it out, including Justice Miller the wide receiver for the school, who was touched by this experience as he regrets of not have thinking about it himself. A lesson from this video shows how we all deserve to be happy and successful no matter what the situation may be.

Who is truly great?

Student Success Statement

"They're only truly great who are truly good." - George Chapman

What this quote by George Chapman means to me is that we can all be considered great in a variety of aspects, but those who are truly great are those who are truly good. Yeah, you may be the best player in your soccer team making you a great athlete, for example, but if you lie, cheat, treat others without respect... You aren't so great after all now are you? Choose to be truly great as in helping others, being a good person in society, do not do drugs or alcohol, always tell the truth, in the end, strive the be the best person you can be. Many people will respect and you yourself will feel truly great. As a result, you will live a more fulfilling life, be successful, and overall live the life you want to live.

Is the short term gain worth the long term pain?

Cheating: Is the short term gain worth the long term pain?

"Many think that the short term gain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn't. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don't do it."

What this quote by George Mitchell means to me is that many people believe that being satisfied for a short term, guarantees you will be on the long term. Overall, we must never cheat because in a way we are cheating ourselves on sports, school, or in life in general, and these are habits we want to prevent. Cheating is down right unacceptable, but when it comes to sports, there is nothing worse than a cheater. It is way better to lose or win knowing you played fair, and were true not only to the sport, but to yourself, your teammates/team and to your competitors.

I won't do what?

"I won't cheat" - Dale Murphy

What this quote by Dale Murphy means to me is that, in order to be truly successful in sports and in life, we must never cheat ourselves towards success. Yes, winning in sports and in life is a huge bonus, but it means nothing if we got to were we are today by lying or cheating. If you don't cheat or you don't lie you will become a more respected person in society. Remember, cheating is like taking the easy way out, wouldn't you like to feel accomplished by actually trying to reach your goals or win without cheating or lying, not only will you be a good person, if you choose to not lie or cheat, you will be a person with great character.

What matters most?

Student Success Statement

"Character Matters Most." - Dale Murphy

What this quote by Dale Murphy means to me is that in sports and in life as well, we always want to have money, have that recognition, the fame, so people can remember us by, but in reality it means nothing if we have no character. Its okay to want some of these things, but we should pursue good character in sports and in life. Good character meaning being a good sport, always telling the truth, respecting others, recognizing your own mistakes, this will get you a better self image, which a whole lot better than money, fame, or possessions.

What exceeds all?

Student Success Statement

"Great beauty, great strength, and great riches are really and truly of no great use; a right heart exceeds all." - Benjamin Franklin

What this quote by Benjamin Franklin means to me is that you don't have to be born rich/poor, beautiful/handsome, strong/weak, because having a right heart exceeds all, saying, we as humans can be born in any way but if we are kind, respectful, always choosing whats right, that means we have a good heart or right heart. You may be poor or whatever the case may be, but if you have a good heart you are sure to live a better, more happy life than someone who is rich, but does not have a right heart.
