What this quote by Dale Murphy means to me is that, in order to be truly successful in sports and in life, we must never cheat ourselves towards success. Yes, winning in sports and in life is a huge bonus, but it means nothing if we got to were we are today by lying or cheating. If you don't cheat or you don't lie you will become a more respected person in society. Remember, cheating is like taking the easy way out, wouldn't you like to feel accomplished by actually trying to reach your goals or win without cheating or lying, not only will you be a good person, if you choose to not lie or cheat, you will be a person with great character.
